This week my husband had a conversation with one of his best friends who knows him so well. And they talked alot about the difference between vision and dreams. Especially in a season when there has been so much weariness and restriction over anything future oriented.
The Prophet Joel prophesied about dreams and visions in Joel 2:28 “And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions.”
This is such a beautiful promise and there is room in here for everyone and every season you are in.(Don’t forget that age definitions are probably quite irrelevant as people lived into their hundreds!)
The point is that as you contend for anything in your future, you want to find language that invites you towards that promise.
When I think prophesy .. I think declarative, co-labouring with God of promises over your future. I think supernatural gift of prophesy.
When I think vision we see the the Greek word ‘horama’ which means to supernaturally gaze at an image externally or have an inspired appearance internally.
When I think dreams I understand that as less actionable and more as messengers. There are some friends I have who really are gifted in this area of interpreting dreams.
In the work that I do with leaders I host Vision Board Workshops (we have one coming up this week on Saturday and everyone in the Sisterhood is invited to this session. You can register here). And in it, we take some time to reflect on why we are designing our boards in a certain way, what it means to us and what we will do with it into the year ahead.
I am imagining these daughters of Z had a real vision of what their future could look like and the whole heart of this journey is to also activate this type of bold dreaming, prophecying or visioneering in your own life at the beginning of this year.
There are some particular personalities who do not naturally incline towards the future in their own time orientation and we will look at that tomorrow.
But today, study these girls again and decide what word aligns best with your season.
Are you dreaming, visioneering or prophecying these 21 days?
